Pink Flowers, or Wild Gladioli

Pink wild gladioli droop from long sea-green leaves that sweep out of a slender dark blue vase, against a spring evening of black, rust brown and cobalt blue, above a round yellow table.

This painting is done in the spring evening. Wild gladioli (Gladiolus italicus) bloom in Italy in March, and they are among the first spring flowers, when it is still often cold. They are surprising for their strength and at the same time for their delicacy and fragility.
