Pine on the Adriatic

A windswept pine rises above white coastal houses and the blue Adriatic Sea. Expressive brushwork and luminous Mediterranean colours create a sense of movement, sea air and changing light. The contemporary artwork is presented in an authentic antique wooden frame decorated with four brass rosettes.

I am beginning a new series, “Contemporary Painting in Antique Settings.” Landscapes, still lifes and portraits are painted in oil on special Fabriano oil paper and presented in antique Italian frames. This creates a contrast between contemporary painting and the sense of age, history and tradition held within each old frame..
