Venice, Giudecca

Quiet Giudecca, far from the postcard views of Venice: a pale yellow building with columns under a terracotta roof, blue-green trees and one dark tree behind it, and a red bridge running out over light blue water, in loose strokes of cream, teal and brick red.

For an artist who loves Venice, it takes a lot of effort to avoid classic postcard views. Fortunately, Venice is full of the unexpected and strange, and it is not limited to piazza San Marco. This is Giudecca Island, a Venetian 'village' within the city limits, where it is quiet, relatively empty, and even trees grow.
