Spoltore and Its Churches

The work depicts the historic hill town of Spoltore in Abruzzo, Italy, with its churches, bell towers and closely gathered rooftops rising against an intense blue sky. Rather than reproducing the architecture literally, the painting reduces the town to a lively arrangement of shapes and colors: warm ochres and yellows, terracotta roofs, muted greens and deep violet-browns.

Loose, visible brushwork and deliberately simplified forms give the view a spontaneous, almost memory-like quality.
