Spoltore Under the August Sun

Spoltore, an old hill town in Abruzzo, under the August sun: ochre and terracotta houses, a dark bell tower and round trees climb the hillside in thick, rhythmic strokes of yellow, green and blue-grey.

I painted this Italian town as a dense, almost rhythmic composition of houses, churches, trees and hills. Ochre and terracotta buildings are surrounded by deep greens and cool blue-grey tones, creating the feeling of a bright summer day in an old Italian hill town..
